How Much Does a Private Chauffeur Cost in Rome?
VAT included (10%).
The short answer: from €55 for a trip within the city, from €77 for an airport, from €176 for the port of Civitavecchia. But the right price depends on the route, the time and the number of passengers — here's how it really works.
Anyone looking for a private chauffeur in Rome for the first time almost always runs into the same question: why do prices vary so much from one site to another? The answer is that a serious chauffeur service doesn't sell "a price" — it sells a service at a fixed rate agreed before departure, and that rate depends on a handful of clear variables, not a taxi meter. Here's how the price of a private chauffeur in Rome is actually built in 2026.
Base Rates (VAT included)
With SM Limoservice, the price list is based on four service categories:
- Urban Transfer in Rome: from €55 in a sedan, from €77 in a van, a fixed rate for a point-to-point trip within the city (e.g. station, hotel, restaurant).
- Airport Transfer (Fiumicino or Ciampino): from €77 in a sedan, from €99 in a van, with real-time flight monitoring and 60 minutes of free waiting time included.
- Civitavecchia Port Transfer: from €176 in a sedan, from €231 in a van, with "under the gangway" meet-and-greet for cruise passengers.
- Hourly Disposal (chauffeur at your disposal): from €55/hour, minimum 3 consecutive hours, ideal for shopping, meetings or a day of sightseeing without a fixed itinerary.
What Changes the Price (and What Doesn't)
Unlike a taxi, where the final price is only revealed at the end of the ride, with a chauffeur service you know it before you get in the car. Only two factors can change it, and both are always communicated in advance:
- 10% VAT: already included in the displayed prices. Your quote includes a breakdown.
- 20% night surcharge: applies to services carried out between 10pm and 6am.
There are no surprises for traffic, red lights, or routes that turn out longer than expected: the agreed rate stays the same whether you arrive in 30 minutes or after an hour of queueing.
Chauffeur or Taxi: When Each One Makes Sense
For a short, unplanned ride, a taxi remains convenient. But for an airport transfer, an important event, or a trip with luggage, a private chauffeur offers two concrete advantages a meter can't: a price you know before you leave, and a driver who is already waiting for you by name, with nothing to explain on arrival.
